Don’t say I didn’t warn you about not going for the RN
I will be the first to admit that I did not look forward to going back to school. But I knew that if I was ever to break that glass ceiling, I would have.
I work in the banking world, where it’s all about how much experience you have, what school you got your degree at, and how brown your nose is. It’s not pleasant, but that’s how it it. I want that corner office one day so I can kick my feet up and not do anything all day. The problem is that everybody else wants that too and need quite a few more years on my resume.
I have a friend who is in the same situation, although she is still thinking about whether she needs to return to school or not. She is an LPN, which stands for licensed practical nurse. She faces a glass ceiling unless she enrolls in an LPN to RN program. That would make her a registered nurse, which would pay more money and add more prestige. Not as much prestige as a surgeon, but some still.
So why should you care about degrees, LPN to RN stuff, or any of that? Because if you ever come back to me saying that you have no way to move up in the world, I will not believe you. I will simply refer you back to this article where I stated that you could make more money by getting more education and working hard. That’s all I have to say for now.
