Abs Machines vs Bodyweight Exercise

If you want to train your abs, there’s quite a number of options open to you. The two main ones are using abs machines, or simply using your bodyweight.

So, which will serve you better? Let’s do a quick examination.

First, price. An ab machine will cost you money. That’s a given. So, if you’re on a very tight budget, that’s immediately a problem.

Next, ab machines cannot go wherever you go. You can hardly pack that Ab Rocket into your suitcase when you travel.

Third, many ab machines only offer a basic range of exercises. With the majority of machines this range strictly revolves around situps and crunches. While these are decent exercises, they’re hardly the best ones you can do for your abs.

In contrast to this, bodyweight exercises cost you nothing except the effort you put in. Since you have no machines or equipment to carry around, literally anywhere is your gym, be it your hotel room when you travel or even your office.

You can also do a massive variety of exercises by simply using your bodyweight, allowing you to target the abs in many different ways.

In addition to this, where most machines isolate the abs and disengage the rest of your body, with bodyweight exercises you can get your whole body in on the act, burning more fat for better and faster results.

We’ll say this for ab machines: if you have trouble with your back, or your body needs help to handle certain stress positions, a machine is a good option as many of them lend support.

However, if you’re really serious about your fitness, working out a challenging bodyweight routine will serve you much better in the long run than an ab machine ever could. Not even the best ab machines as seen on TV can come close to the punch delivered by a well executed bodyweight routine.
